WINE TOUR
Day 1 Transfer to a 4* Princess Hotel in the city center. Panoramic tour to get the first impression from the city. Dinner in a local restaurant specialized in a Bulgarian national cuisine. Overnight.
Day2 After breakfast a small walking sightseeing tour in the city center with a visits of the Alexander Nevski Cathedral, St. Sofia Church from the 5th C.AC, The St. George Round Church from the 4th c. A.C., the Royal Palace, the National Theatre. Afterwards we will depart for the Rila Monastery founded by St. John of Rila in the 10th century. During the National Revival Period the monastery become one of the most important cultural and religious centers in the country. This is the biggest monastery in Bulgaria and is included in the UNESCO’s World Heritage list. We will visit the monastery church and the monastery museum. The tour continues to the village of Damianitsa where we have our first wine tasting and lunch. After lunch we will make our departure for the town of Sandanski. It’s famous balneology and spa resort. Dinner and overnight in Interhotel Sandanski.
Day 3 After breakfast we will depart for the smallest tow in Bulgaria – Melnik. In this region of Bulgaria there are perfect conditions for growing of the Melnik’s famous red grapes. Visit to the Kordopulov’s House and wine tasting in the sand tunnels beneath the House, where the wine used to be stored in the past. Afterwards will have a lunch in a typical restaurant specialized in the Bulgarian Cuisine. Our trip continues to the town of Bansko, one of the famous mountain and ski resorts. Accommodation and a short sightseeing tour of the town. Dinner – BBQ specialties and wine tasting in a local restaurant with folklore show. Overnight in hotel Bulgaria.
Day 4 After breakfast we will continue through the Rhodope Mountain to the city of Plovdiv, founded by Phillip II of Macedonia, father of Alexander the Great, then conquered by the Romans and turned by them into an important cultural and administrative center. We will make short trip to the private wine cellar Todorov (20km), where we will have a chance to observe all the process of wine making, followed by a wine tasting session. We will get back to Plovdiv for accommodation, dinner and overnight.
Day 5 After breakfast we will be on through the Thracian Valley and the Rose Valley to the village of Shipka to visit the Russian Memorial Church, built to honor all the Russian soldiers and officers died in the Russian- Turkish Liberation War. The trip continues trough the Shipka pass (1326m.) to the open air Ethnographical Museum of Etura. In this museum are presented all the crafts that existed in the 19th century. Lunch in the typical tavern. We will be on to the city of Veliko Turnovo the capital of the Second Bulgarian Kingdom. Visit to the neighboring village of Arbanassi, where we can see the typical example of the Bulgarian Architecture and the Nativity of the Christ Church. We will have dinner at a restaurant in the village. Overnight in Veliko Turnovo.
Day 6 We will make sightseeing tour of Veliko Turnovo, including the Fortress of Tsarevets from the Second Bulgarian Kingdom (1185- 1396). Afterwards departure to Lyaskovets where is situated one of the biggest wine cellars in Bulgaria. Visit and wine tasting. Dinner and over night in Veliko Turnovo.
Day 7 After breakfast we will depart towards Trojan Monastery (founded in 16th c.) We will visit the monastery and taste the famous plum brandy. Continue our way to Sofia. Accommodation in the Princess Hotel (4* hotel). Farewell dinner in a typical Bulgarian restaurant “Vodenitsata” with a folk show.
Day 8 Transfer to the Sofia Airport.
